Your skin is important, it literally holds everything together. The capstone of your skin is your face. Your face is your center of attention, and how you are identified. Yes, having beautiful and healthy skin how affects how you feel about yourself and how you are perceived by those around you.

What’s the best way to keep your face and skin healthy? It’s pretty much the same basic principles that keep our entire body healthy: a healthy diet, plenty of water, exercise, and good hygiene! Food gives your body energy and water re-hydrates liquid lost through everyday activities. Your body will not function properly if it is deprived of food or water. The skin’s natural ability to repair itself and replace old and dying cells will be minimized. Keeping your hands clean is especially important because your hands can easily spread germs and oils to your face.

Proper skincare should be practiced in order to protect your face and have beautiful and healthy skin. Here are some suggestions to protecting your face:

Wash your face once or twice a day with warm water and a mild soap or facial cleanser.

Don’t scrub your face, especially if you have acne, it can irritate your skin making your acne much worse.

Wear sunscreen or cosmetics with sunscreen every day.

Avoid getting hair sprays or gels on your face, they can clog pores.

Keep your har out of your face, the oils in your hair can contribute to blemishes.

Wash your face after sweating or exercise.

Keep your face and hands clean.

Use “oil-free,” “non-comedogenic,” or “non-acnegenic.” cosmetics and sunscreens.

When you wash your face, be sure to remove all of your makeup.

Don’t pick, squeeze, or pop pimples.

Try not to touch your face.

One simple way to take care of your face is to not neglect it! Start a face regimen to take care of your face and avoid problems. Single best thing you can do is to wash our face every day! Most wash first thing in the morning and late in the evening, but you may need to wash more often. Cleansing your face removes the dirt, dust, and accumulation of oil in the pores that can contribute to skin problems. Gently wash your face with warm water

The skin on your face is not like the rest of the skin on your body. It is much more sensitive! The bar of soap or bath jell that you use on the rest of your body is not the best product for your face, and it can really irritate your skin. It is best to use products that are meant for your face, not your body. Look for a perfume free, neutral pH balanced cleanser without any additional harsh or harmful chemicals.

One of the most powerful natural antiseptics for your skin is Tea Tree oil. Aboriginals have used tree tee oil for thousands of years to treat ailments such as ulcers and abscesses, conjunctivitis, acne, boils, impetigo, athlete’s foot, psoriasis, dandruff, thrush, septic wounds, cuts, abrasions, infected wounds, and rid the hair and body of lice and ticks. There is plenty of scientific evidence to support these claims. A 1990 study published in the Medical Journal of Australia reported that a solution of 5% tea tree oil treated acne just as well as 5% benzoyl peroxide.

Because it is one of the most powerful natural antiseptics known, Australian Tea Tree oil is the primary ingredient in Florida’s Best All Natural Tea Tree Face Wash. Our All Natural Tea Tree Face Wash is a 100% all-natural and pH-balanced facial cleanser specially formulated to be non-abrasive to the skin while delivering thorough results.

Aboriginals would search far and wide for “magical lagoons” where tea tree leaves have fallen and collected. They bathed and swam in these “lagoons” to treat their wounds, burns, and other ailments. Luckily, your Tea Tree “magical lagoon” and many other 100% all-natural bath and body products are just a phone call away.

Acne is an upsetting problem for most teenagers and some adults. Its most damaging effects are those that cannot be seen. Acne can have profound psychological and social effects, especially in adolescents who are still developing their personalities and self-esteem. Even mild acne can have debilitating effects on one’s psyche.

Acne can be so severe that it requires professional medical assistance, but often it can be treated with an over the counter product. Over the counter products treat acne in one of four ways: killing the Propionibacterium that causes acne inflammation, removing excess oils from the skin or hair follicles, speeding up the growth of new skin cells, or aiding in the removal of dead skin cells. Some products contain chemicals that work by performing a combination of these things.

Some of the chemicals commonly found in over the counter acne treatments are Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, and sulfur. These chemicals have proven to be effective in fighting acne, but may have some side effects especially if you have sensitive skin. Common side effects are excessive dryness, scaling, redness, mild stinging, skin irritation, burning, and stinging. In addition to its physical effects, Benzoyl Peroxide can also bleach hair and clothing

Other commonly prescribed acne treatments that are antibiotics which may cause an upset stomach, dizziness, skin discoloration, or increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun; oral contraceptives, which may cause headaches, change in menstrual flow, breast tenderness, and slightly increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and blood clots; Isotretinoin (Accutane), which may cause birth defects, hair loss, psychiatric problems, or other potentially serious problems affecting a number of organs, including the liver, intestines, eyes, ears, and skeletal system.

The biggest problem with these medicines is that they have irritating to potentially deadly side effects and they only treat the symptoms, not the cause of the acne. The best way to handle an acne problem is to prevent the problem. Here are the Mayo clinic suggestions on preventing acne:

• Wash acne-prone areas only twice a day. Washing removes excess oil and dead skin cells. But too much washing can irritate the skin. Wash areas with a gentle cleanser and use oil-free, water-based skin care products.

• Use an over-the-counter acne cream or gel to help dry excess oil. Look for products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as the active ingredient.

• Avoid heavy foundation makeup. Choose powder cosmetics over cream products because they’re less irritating.

• Remove makeup before going to bed. Going to sleep with cosmetics on your skin can clog tiny openings of the hair follicles (pores). Also, be sure to throw out old makeup and clean your cosmetic brushes and applicators regularly with soapy water.

• Wear loose fitting clothing. Tight fitting clothing traps heat and moisture and can irritate your skin. Also, whenever possible, avoid tight fitting straps, backpacks, helmets or sports equipment to prevent friction against your skin.

• Shower after exercising or doing strenuous work. Oil and sweat on your skin can trap dirt and bacteria.

To fight acne without the side effects of the compounds used in over the counter and prescription medicines, Florida’s Best recommends its’ All Natural Acne Elimination System to prevent and treat acne. The All Natural Acne Elimination System includes 100% all natural products to wash, moisturize, and exfoliate your skin, and acne treatment. The All Natural Acne Elimination System even includes free facial sponges. Here is how the system works:

Many of us will start new exercise regimens on January 1st. Unfortunately, this will be one more failed resolution for most of us. Starting a new exercise program can be a very intimidating experience. One of the biggest physical deterrents is the muscle soreness experienced when starting a new exercise regimen.

This is known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and can start from one to several days after exercising. This is a common result of physical activity for newbies and professionals alike. It is the result of physical activity that stresses a muscle beyond what it is accustomed to. The pain is due to tiny tears in the muscle fiber coupled with the inflammation that accompanies these tears. The muscles will become stronger, but muscle soreness can be very discouraging until your muscles adapt to to new workload.

Anti-inflammatory pills are the most commonly prescribed medications to treat pain and inflammation related to exercise. Ibuprofen, Aleve, and aspirin are all commonly used to combat the pain. Repeated use of these medicines can create produce other bad side effects including:

Stomach problems such as upset stomach, ulcers, and heartburn

Headaches and dizziness

Blood clotting difficulty, (especially with aspirin)

Liver and kidney damage in frequent high doses

There are other natural alternatives to combat muscle soreness. Researchers suggest using topical pain relief cream instead of pills. Topical pain relief creams do not have the same side effects as pills, and have the advantage of being applied directly to the affected area. Other effective methods to minimize exercise soreness include:

Anti-inflammatory medication such as Florida’s Best Athletic Two-Stage Pain Relief

Ice

Stretching (Before and after exercise)

Rest (let your body repair itself)

Eat Clean (small quantity of lean protein and a larger quantity of low-glycemic index vegetables)

Heat compress

Massage

Most people do not consider waking up early in the morning an enjoyable experience. It can be especially bad for those that are awoken with a migraine. Awakening in the middle of the night or early in the morning with a migraine is a particularly painful way to start your day!

The relationship between sleep and migraines was recognized in the 1940’s through studies depriving patients of “deep sleep”. Researchers reported changes in the frequency and severity of migraine headaches based on these disruptions in the test subjects’ sleep patterns.

This type of migraine is known as a nocturnal migraine. A nocturnal migraine is a throbbing, pulsating headache that attacks and awakens a person from a sound sleep between the late night and very early morning hours. While the exact cause is still not well understood, nocturnal migraines may be triggered by changes in neurotransmitters in the brain that occur during the sleep cycle. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that carry nerve signals through the body, help to control sleep, and other brain functions.

There is also another more specific type of nocturnal migraine called a hypnic migraine. The hypnic migraine repeatedly occurs at the same time of night. The attacks typically occur around 4:00 a.m. It is also referred to as an “alarm clock headache.” These headaches can occur three to four times a week or every day.

The effects of a nocturnal migraine, like most migraine headaches, can be debilitating and generally occur on one side of the head. Symptoms include dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, visual auras, and sensitivity to light and sound. Not everyone suffers from the same symptoms.

The causes of migraines are not completely understood it is thought that the following are generally accepted to be possible migraine triggers:

Sleep Disruptions,

Foods (aged cheeses, caffeinated drinks, red wine, smoked meats, and chocolate),

Food Additives (monosodium glutamate (MSG), artificial sweeteners),

Smells (perfumes and other strong odors),

glaring or flickering lights

cigarette smoke,

heavy computer work,

watching television,

loud noises,

long periods of reading or other work which needs intense focus

emotional stress

While all of these conditions can cause a migraine, it is thought that disruptions in sleep patterns are the most likely trigger of nocturnal migraines. Lack of sleep, too much sleep, and any other sleep interruption while sleeping can be a potential contributing factor.

The prevention of a nocturnal migraine ranges from general lifestyle management to actions specific to nocturnal migraines:

Try to avoid the known migraine triggers listed above,

Engage in relaxing activities throughout the day (practice yoga, meditate, or you simply spend time in activities you enjoy each day)

Maintain a consistent sleep schedule.

Like all migraines, it is best to treat a nocturnal migraine at its onset.

Dream Warnings. Many nocturnal migraine sufferers report having vivid, weird, or unusual dreams before or during the onset of the migraine. Some have even reported having a dream (nightmare) about having a migraine! Make a conscience effort to realize that this may be a pre-migraine event and wake yourself (if possible) to take preventative measures.

Relax and change your sleeping position. The National Headache Foundation suggests changing position in bed and elevating the back, shoulders and head. Elevating the upper body helps reduce pressure in the head by promoting blood flow back to the heart. Try propping your back and shoulders up on two pillows and practice deep breathing or other relaxation techniques.

Elevation can be combined with applications of a cold pack or cold cloth to help reduce pain and inflammation.

Over the counter migraine medications may reduce symptoms so you can go back to sleep. Florida’s Best Migraine Buster is easy to apply and would be especially effective in preventing a migraine at this stage.

Caffeine. Some patients respond well to small doses of caffeine less than 60 mg, but this may keep you awake if you are sensitive to caffeine.

Prescription Medication: Midrin, Ergostat, Migranol, Lithium and Flunarizine are all commonly prescribed to combat nocturnal migraines. A physician always be consulted about serious potential side effects and drug interactions of these chemicals.

Treating a nocturnal migraine as soon as the symptoms occur keeps the condition from getting worse. One of the best ways to prevent a nocturnal migraine is place a small bottle of Florida’s Best Migraine Buster in your nightstand. Just apply a small amount of Migraine Buster on the temples, and base of the skull from ear to ear at the first sign of a nocturnal migraine. The penetrating action with stimulate blood flow and relieve the pain and discomfort of the migraine. One of best things about Florida’s Best Migraine Buster, other than fast and effective pain relief, is that it is created from a centuries old formulation of essential oils known to relieve migraine symptoms. Florida’s Best Migraine Buster can be used with other oral medications without adverse effects. All of Florida’s Best All Natural Products are 100% all natural!

When a nocturnal migraine hits, it is important to try to rest again. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and eat nutritious foods. If your nocturnal migraines increase in frequency or duration, start a journal detailing symptoms and lifestyle changes. This may help determine what is triggering your migraines and would be crucial in helping your doctor to create a treatment plan.

Migraines are something that should not be ignored. Migraines are thought to be one of the top twenty causes of years of healthy life lost to disability. It is important to discuss your nocturnal migraines with a physician, because this condition can disrupt the ability to get a good night’s sleep which can be the origin of other health issues.

You are sitting at work working diligently on your computer when you notice that you are having difficulty focusing with your left eye. Your difficulty focusing quickly escalates to bright flashes, zig zags, and flashing lights. You start to get nervous as you think about all the possibilities? Am I having a stroke? Am I losing my vision? You are actually experiencing a common migraine known as an Ocular Migraine.

Ocular migraines are often painless, temporary visual disturbances that usually affect one eye, but can affect both eyes. Although frightening, ocular migraines are typically harmless and self-resolve themselves. Ocular migraines are also known as a retinal migraine, migraine equivalent, eye migraine, visual migraine, painless migraine or simply a migraine aura without headache.

Although ocular migraines are typically temporary and harmless other than interfering with normal day to day activities such as reading or watching television, they are clearly a danger to anyone who is driving or operating machinery. Most people recover fully from an ocular migraine within 2 to 30 minutes without medication; however ocular migraines should not be shrugged off as insignificant. Although permanent vision loss is quite rare, ocular migraines can cause damage to the retina and its blood vessels. A small percentage of sufferers experience ocular migraines days or weeks before the onset of a traditional migraine.

Ocular migraines cause many of the same visual symptoms (or auras) as traditional migraine sufferer’s experience. This includes blind spots, zig zags, circles, squares, assorted other flashing lights, and may also may include other sensations such as numbness, dizziness, vertigo, or double vision, nausea, vomiting (known as migraine fatigue). The big difference between ocular and traditional migraines is that ocular migraines normally have no headache or pain and usually affect only one eye. Ocular headaches do not cause a loss of vision. Any loss of vision is generally caused by some other more serious condition

As with other migraines, the cause of ocular migraines is not fully understood. Migraines most commonly affect adults in their 30s and 40s, but they can also affect children. Women are also up to three times more likely than men to have migraines. Those with the following conditions are also more likely so to suffer from migraines:

Lupus,

Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries),

Sickle cell disease,

Epilepsy,

Depression,

family history of migraines.

Statistics specifically for ocular migraines are unavailable. The Mayo Clinic staff wrote “The cause of ocular migraines isn’t clearly understood. But they’re thought to be due to abnormal stimulation of nerve cells (neurons) at the back of the brain.” It is believed that this neurological activity decreases the blood flow to the brain resulting in a decrease in oxygen resulting in the auras. Imaging studies have documented changes in blood flow in the brain that occur during a migraine. The underlying cause of the spontaneous nature of an ocular migraine still remains unknown.

Migraine triggers are still a bit of a mystery, but the following are generally accepted to be possible ocular migraine triggers:

Foods (aged cheeses, caffeinated drinks, red wine, smoked meats, and chocolate),

Food Additives (monosodium glutamate (MSG), artificial sweeteners),

Smells (perfumes and other strong odors),

glaring or flickering lights

cigarette smoke,

heavy computer work,

watching television,

tiredness,

long periods of reading or other work which needs intense focus

emotional stress

Treatment for ocular migraines is difficult. Even though ocular migraines normally regress on their own within a reasonable amount of time they are still be disruptive, emotionally disturbing, and can be incapacitating. The problem with traditional migraine medications, such as triptans, is that they do not work fast enough deal with the visual symptoms of an ocular migraine.

Florida’s Best All Natural Products can relieve you of the pain and debilitating effects of migraine headaches. Florida’s Best Migraine Buster gives speedy effective right where you need it. Just apply a small amount of Migraine Buster on the base of the skull, from ear to ear, at the first sign of an ocular migraine. The penetrating action with stimulate blood flow and relieve the pain and discomfort of the migraine. You can also apply Migraine Buster to the temples to relieve the excruciating pain of a traditional migraine. One of best things about Florida’s Best Migraine Buster, other than fast and effective pain relief, is that it is created from a centuries old formulation of essential oils known to relief migraine symptoms. Florida’s Best Migraine Buster can be used with other oral medications without adverse effects. All of Florida’s Best All Natural Products are 100% all natural!

It’s a good idea to see your general physician for an exam and advice if you believe you are suffering from ocular migraines. You may also consider an eye exam with an optometrist or ophthalmologist to ensure you are not suffering from any other conditions that may threaten your sight.
